The physiotherapist will first assess the severity of your condition, depending on the nature and location of your pain. The physiotherapist will then decide which treatment method is best suited for you; either manual therapy or soft tissue techniques. Your treatment plan will include both therapeutic sessions, which will seek to restore movement to the injured areas of your body and reduce pain and inflammation, and rehabilitative exercises, which will rebuild your muscles in preparation for rebuilding your movement.
Manual Therapy Treatment: If you suffer from a motor vehicle accident that involves a sudden and significant restriction or loss of movement, your physiotherapy treatment plan will include a set of diagnostic and therapeutic soft tissue techniques designed to return injured muscles to their prior positions and function. If the injury results from a previously undiscovered or rare condition, your therapist may also recommend that you undergo MRI or CT scans to determine if the injury is more extensive or severe. In most cases, these diagnostic tests will also determine if you require further treatment at an independent clinic or hospital. If your condition is severe, your physiotherapist will refer you to a qualified surgeon or orthopaedic surgeon to commence surgery once your condition has stabilized.
